From TVTropes' "Crowning Moment of Real Life" page:

"When acclaimed rapper Nas pulled out of a performance on Later With Jools Holland, a little-known Scottish woman was invited on - with 24 hours to prepare. Armed with only a guitar and a loop pedal, she proceeded to comprehensively upstage every other act on the show with a stunning performance of sheer, utter balls. Yep, it's "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" by KT Tunstall."

I'm not alone in using music as a survival tool... to escape frustration, undergo catharsis and bring myself to a stronger emotional state. Here I am testing embedding of my Bloodline playlist in Finetune.com, a limited but free streaming service through Flash.

(after some time spent futzing with Finetune's code...)

Or just go here and hit play.

Lemme just say that having all one's co-workers on vacation can really suck. It amazes me how deleterious plain old stress can be - I'm not hurt, not threatened, not under attack, but just being overwhelmed and knowing that I'm falling farther behind every hour is enough to give me nightmares. Note to self: those silly stretching and breathing exercises are actually important.

Now, though, I've had a full day to breathe and recover. Balm for the soul, for me, was spending Friday night on the floor with a good book, listening to Flashback Alternative's Friday night Worst of the 70's show. There's so much cool music out there that never saw the light of mainstream - 'Convoy' by CW McCall, 'Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald' by Gordon Lightfoot. They even played 'Stories' by Gary Numan. Storytelling is everywhere, as is the sharing of stories.

Spending the evening cleaning up my mp3 collection on my laptop, readying it for the sacred duty of DJ'ing the rest of the UW Huskies hockey season. Refs take the ice - theme from 'Shaft'. Great save - clip of 'Unbelieveable' by EMF. If a scuffle should break out, I've got 'War - what is it good for' by Eddie Starr. And of course, fight songs ranging from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Juno Reactor. Back in harness, cold metal rhythm. Life is sweet.
